Minimizing the Trade-Off between Photocurrent and Photovoltage in Triple-Cation Mixed-Halide Perovskite Solar Cells

Its lower bandgap makes formamidinium lead iodide (FAPbI(3)) a more suitable candidate for single-junction solar cells than pure methylammonium lead iodide (MAPbI(3)). However, its structural and thermodynamic stability is improved by introducing a significant amount of MA and bromide, both of which increase the bandgap and amplify trade-off between the photocurrent and photovoltage. Here, we simultaneously stabilized FAPbI(3 )into a cubic lattice and minimized the formation of photoinactive phases such as hexagonal FAPbI(3) and PbI2 by introducing 5% MAPbBr(3) , as revealed by synchrotron X-ray scattering. We were able to stabilize the composition (FA(0.95)MA(0.05)Cs(0.05))Pb(I-0.95 Br-0.05)(3), which exhibits a minimal trade-off between the photocurrent and photovoltage. This material shows low energetic disorder and improved charge-carrier dynamics as revealed by photothermal deflection spectroscopy (PDS) and transient absorption spectroscopy (TAS), respectively. This allowed the fabrication of operationally stable perovskite solar cells yielding reproducible efficiencies approaching 22%.

Cytotoxicity and genotoxicity of silver nanoparticles in Chinese Hamster ovary cell line (CHO-K1) cells

Biomedical and pharmaceutical products comprising silver nanoparticles are attracting interest due to their potent antibacterial activities. For their safe use it has become imperative to test their cyto-genotoxic potential. In the present study the cytotoxicity and genotoxicity of three different sizes of AgNPs ranging from 15 to 22 nm and at concentrations 0.005-500 mu g/ml were studied in Chinese Hamster ovary cell line (CHO-K1) cells. Cytoxicity was assessed by MTT [3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide] assay and for genotoxicity comet, and micronucleus assays were utilized. AgNPs were able to internalize CHO-K1 cells and cause cytotoxicity at concentrations 0.005-500 mu g/ml. AgNP-induced cyto-genotoxicity in CHO-K1 cells could be attributed to its smaller primary size. AgNP-C of size similar to 15 nm was the most potent among the three AgNPs. The genotoxic response was biphasic that increased at lower concentrations (0.005-0.025 mu g/ml) and decreased at higher concentrations (0.05-0.1 mu g/ml) after 24 h of exposure. Such potential in vitro genotoxic effect of AgNPs remains to be further confirmed in animal cells in vivo.

In this research, a novel, one-pot, efficient procedure with high yield for the synthesis of pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinoline derivatives using multi-component reaction of isoquinoline, alkyl bromides, and triphenylphosphine in the presence of Fe3O4-MNPs as catalyst under solvent-free conditions at room temperature is investigated. This study highlights an easy, simple, rapid, and clean method for the preparation of pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinoline derivatives. The Fe3O4-MNPs in these reactions were produced employing a green procedure by reduction of ferric chloride solution with pomegranate peel water extract. Synthesis, characterization and antimicrobial evaluation of some novel 1,2,4-triazolo [3,4-b][1,3,4]thiadiazine bearing substituted phenylquinolin-2-one moiety

Cyclocondensation of substituted anilines with 3-phenyl-2-propenoic acid yielded Phenyl-(substituted)-quinolin-2-one derivatives (1a1t). In the next step phenylquinolin-2-one acetic acid derivatives (2a2t) were prepared by the treatment of (1a1t) with chloroacetic acid. Further (2a2t) derivatives were reacted with thiocarbohydrazide to obtain a series of 4-amino-5-sulfanyl-4,5-dihydro-1,2,4-triazolo-4-pheny-(substituted)-quinolin-2-one derivatives (3a3t). Then condensation of (3a3t) with phenacyl bromide provided series of fused heterocyclic derivatives of 4-phenyl-1-({6-phenyl-7H-[1,2,4]triazolo[3,4-b][1,3,4]thiadiazin-3-yl}methyl)-(substituted)-1,2-dihydro quinolin-2-one (4a4t). Structures of these newly synthesized derivatives were established by elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H NMR and Mass spectroscopy. Final derivatives (4a4t) were screened for their in vitro antibacterial and antifungal activities against the standard drugs Ampicillin and Fluconazole respectively. The compounds 4d, 4g and 4j showed potent activity against all the studied microbes. Post-marketing Re-evaluation of Tongxiening Granules in Treatment of Diarrhea-Predominant Irritable Bowel Syndrome: A Multi-center, Randomized, Double-Blind, Double-Dummy and Positive Control Trial

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Tongxiening Granules (TXNG) in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with predominant diarrhea (IBS-D). Methods: A randomized, double-blind, double-dummy, and positive parallel controlled clinical trial was conducted from October 2014 to March 2016. Totally 342 patients from 13 clinical centers were enrolled and randomly assigned (at the ratio of 1:1) to a treatment group (171 cases) and a control group (171 cases) by a random coding table. The patients in the treatment group were administered orally with TXNG (5 g per time) combined with pinaverium bromide Tablet simulator (50 mg per time), 3 times per day. The patients in the control group were given TXNG simulator (5 g per time) combined with pinaverium bromide Tablets (50 mg per time), 3 times per day. The treatment course lasted for 6 weeks. The improvement of Irritable Bowel Syndrome Symptom Severity Score (IBS-SSS) was used to evaluate the primary outcome. Secondary outcomes included adequate relief (AR) rate, Irritable Bowel Syndrome-Quality of Life Questionnaire (IBS-QOL), Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA), Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD), and the recurrence rate at follow-ups. Safety indices including the adverse events (AEs) and related laboratory tests were evaluated. Results: Primary outcome: IBS-SSS at baseline, weeks 2, 4, 6 showed no statistical significance in both full analysis set (FAS) and per protocol set (PPS, P>0.05). After 6 weeks of treatment, the total effective rate of IBS-SSS scores in the treatment group (147/171, 86.0%) was higher than the control group (143/171, 83.6%) by FAS (P>0.05). In regard to secondary outcomes, after 6-week treatment, there was no significant difference in AR rate, total score of IBS-QOL, improvement of HAMD and HAMA total scores between the two groups (P>0.05). Adsorption removal of Ni(II) and phenol from aqueous solution by modified attapulgite and its composite hydrogel

Attapulgite (ATP) and its organically modified products have been investigated for potential applications in environmental remediation. In this work, a variety of modifiers with different functional groups, including saturated sodium chloride solution (NaCl), cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) and humic acid (HA), were used to treat attapulgite clay firstly, and then with the modified ATP as adsorbent and acrylamide (AAm) as monomer, polyacrylamide/modified attapulgite (PAAm/modified ATP) composite hydrogel which could adsorb heavy metal ions Ni(II) and organic pollutants phenol were synthesized. The structure of the raw ATP and modified ATP was specified with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Transmission electron microscope (TEM). The experiments indicated that the modified ATP and composite hydrogel possessed good adsorption properties for Ni(II) ions and phenol. The adsorption capacity of PAAm/HA-ATP hydrogel for Ni(II) was as high as 64.3 mg/g, which was 194.9% of pure hydrogel. The adsorption isotherm of HA-modified ATP (HA-ATP) and adsorption kinetics of PAAm/HA-ATP composite hydrogel was particularly concerned. The adsorption isotherm equation fitted well on the Langmuir model and R-L values ranged from 0.04 to 0.12 with different temperatures, indicated that the HA-ATP was a suitable adsorbent for adsorption of Ni(II) ions from wastewater. The obtained kinetics data for Ni(II) ions adsorption onto the PAAm/HA-ATP were described well by the pseudo-second-order model (R-2 > 0.99). As for the adsorption of phenol, double-modification proved to be the most effective method, and its optimal adsorption capacity was obtained on PAAm/CTAB-HA-ATP hydrogel.

AbstractSaccharomyces cerevisiae and Aspergillus oryzae are both ancient probiotic species traditionally used as microbes for brewing beer and soy sauce, respectively. This study investigated the effect of adding these two probiotics with phytase fermentation products to the broilers diet. Fermented products possess protease and cellulase, and the activities were 777.1 and 189.5 U/g dry matter (DM) on S. cerevisiae fermented products (SCFP) and 190 and 213.4 U/g DM on A. oryzae fermented products (AOFP), respectively. Liposaccharides stimulated PBMCs to produce nitric oxide to 120 mu mol. Both SCFP and AOFP reduced lipopolysaccharides stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) nitric oxide release to 40 and 60 mu mol, respectively. Nevertheless, in an MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay, SCFP and AOFP also increased the survival rate of lipopolysaccharides stimulated PBMCs by almost two-fold compared to the negative control. A total of 240 broilers were divided into four groups as Control, SCFP 0.1% (SCFP), SCFP 0.05% + AOFP 0.05% (SAFP), and AOFP 0.1% (AOFP) groups, respectively. Each group had 20 broilers, and three replicate pens. The results showed that the addition of SCFP, SAFP, and AOFP groups did not affect the growth performances, but increased the jejunum value of villus height and villus: crypt ratio on SAFP and AOFP groups compared to the control and SCFP groups. Furthermore, adding SCFP, SAFP, and AOFP significantly reduced the number of Clostridium perfringens in ileum chyme. SCFP, SAFP, and AOFP significantly reduced the amount of interleukin-1 beta, inducible nitric oxide synthases, interferon-gamma, and nuclear factor kappa B mRNA expression in PBMCs, especially in the AOFP group. In summary, all the SCFP, SAFP, and AOFP groups can be suggested as a functional feed additive since they enhanced villus: crypt ratio and decreased inflammation-related mRNA expression, especially for AOFP group in broilers.
