A transannular approach has been developed for the construction of pyrrolo[1,2-b]isoquinolinones I (R1 = H, F, Cl, Me, OMe, etc.; R2 = H, F, etc.; R3 = H, Me, etc.; R4 = H, F) starting from benzo-fused nine-membered enelactams II.
