Pilicode, Naveenchandra;Naik, Praveen;Nimith, K. M.;Acharya, Madhukara;Satyanarayan, M. N.;Adhikari, Airody Vasudeva research published 《 New cyanopyridine-based π-conjugative poly(azomethine)s: Synthesis, characterization and electroluminescence studies》, the research content is summarized as follows. Four new Schiff-base type conjugative polymers (CPs), i.e., Py1-4 carrying a strong electron-withdrawing cyanopyridine scaffold coupled with different electron-donating aromatic/heteroaromatic moieties were synthesized from their resp. co-monomers by simple poly-condensation route. They were subjected to structural, thermal, photophys., and electrochem. characterizations and theor. investigations in order to identify their suitability in polymer light-emitting diode (PLED) application. All these polymers showed good film-forming ability and exhibited favorable photophys. behaviors with an optical bandgap in the order of 2.54-2.68 eV. Further, their electrochem. data were used to evaluate HOMO and LUMO levels. Finally, Py1-4 were successfully employed as blue-light emitter in the construction of new ITO/PEDOT:PSS/ Py1-4/Al configured light-emitting diodes (LED), and the fabricated devices demonstrated stable blue electroluminescence behavior endorsing an effective electrons injection in the PLEDs.

Potaniec, Bartlomiej;Zdonczyk, Maria;Cybinska, Joanna research published 《 Controlled Synthesis of Luminescent Xanthene Dyes and Use of Ionic Liquid in Thermochromic Reaction》, the research content is summarized as follows. In this study, we demonstrate six novel xanthene derivatives and their spectroscopic and chem. properties. The presented synthesis examination allowed us to obtain two different compounds during one step, with open and closed lactone rings substituted with different length alkyl chains. Increasing the reaction efficiency to 77% was obtained using the microwave-assisted method. Moreover, the modification of O-alkylation synthesis in an ecofriendly way using a ball mill led to achieving exclusively one opened ring product. All of the synthesized compounds showed different spectroscopic behaviors in comparison with the different organic dyes; the typical concentration quenching of luminescence was not observed The relationship between the length of the alkyl chain and the time of luminescence decay is presented. Synthesized closed forms of dyes turned out to be promising leuco dyes. For the first time, an ionic liquid was used as a developer of synthesized xanthene derivatives (as leuco dyes), which led to obtaining an irreversible thermochromic marker.

The P2X7 receptor (P2X7R) stands out among the purinergic receptors due to its strong involvement in the regulation of tumor growth and metastasis formation as well as in innate immune responses and afferent signal transmission. Numerous studies have pointed out the beneficial effects of P2X7R antagonism for the treatment of a variety of cancer types, inflammatory diseases, and chronic pain. Herein we describe the development of novel P2X7R antagonists, incorporating piperazine squaric diamides as a central element. Besides improving the antagonists potency from pIC50 values of 5.7-7.6, ADME properties (logD7.4 value, plasma protein binding, in vitro metabolic stability) of the generated compounds were investigated and optimized to provide novel P2X7R antagonists with drug-like properties. Furthermore, docking studies revealed the antagonists binding to the allosteric binding pocket in two distinct binding poses, depending on the substitution of the central piperazine moiety.

Pai, Min-Hao;Hu, Chien-Chieh;Liou, Guey-Sheng research published 《 Enhancement of Electrochromic Switching Properties with Troger’s Base-Derived Intrinsic Microporous Polyamide Films》, the research content is summarized as follows. The formation of Troger’s Base (TB) configuration is a useful approach to synthesize polymers of intrinsic microporosity (PIM). Herein, the V-shaped TB scaffold is incorporated to prepare electrochromic (EC) polyamide with electroactive triphenylamine (TPA) moiety. The presence of intrinsic microporosity derived from inefficient packing of TB scaffolds can facilitate the counterions diffusion between electroactive species and electrolytes. Consequently, the resulting TB-based polyamide exhibits enhanced EC behaviors, such as a lower driving potential, reduced the difference of redox potentials ΔE, and shorter switching response time compared to the corresponding EC counterpart polyamide.

Nova, Nabila Nabi;Zarzar, Lauren D. research published 《 Direct laser writing of graphitic carbon from liquid precursors》, the research content is summarized as follows. One-step synthesis and micropatterning of different types of carbon nanomaterials, such as amorphous carbon or three-dimensional graphene which have versatile electrochem., thermal, and mech. properties, are advantageous for the fabrication of microelectronics, sensors, and wearable devices. Here, we report a direct laser writing method to simultaneously synthesize and pattern graphitic carbon from liquid organic precursors. We have tested a wide range of liquid organic precursors and identified the chem. characteristics that are beneficial for successful laser-induced solvothermal deposition. The laser-deposited carbon exhibits a paracryst.-to-polycrystalline structure and has elec. resistivities on the order of 10-3 to 10-4 Ω m which is tunable through variations in the laser power. Such properties of the laser-deposited carbon, coupled with the ability to direct-write custom patterns with microscale resolution, make these carbon materials exciting candidates for use in applications such as energy storage and sensing.

Ontiveros, Jesus F.;Hong, Bing;Aramaki, Kenji;Pierlot, Christel;Aubry, Jean-Marie;Nardello-Rataj, Veronique research published 《 Cation Effect on the Binary and Ternary Phase Behaviors of Double-Tailed Methanesulfonate Amphiphiles》, the research content is summarized as follows. A series of sym. dialkyl methanesulfonate amphiphiles [DiCnCHSO3]mM (n = 6, 7, 8) with different counter cations (Mm+ = H+, Li+, Na+, K+, Cu+2, Zn2+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Sc3+) were synthesized in five steps. Their solubility and critical micelle concentration (CMC) in water were determined highlighting a huge effect of the chain length and the nature of the cation. The hydrophilic-lipophilic balance of the surfactants were assessed with the phase inversion temperature (PIT)-slope method based on the deviation from the PIT of the reference C10E4/n-octane/0.01 M NaCl(aq) emulsion through addition of increasing amounts of the dialkyl methanesulfonates. The hydrophilicity of the surfactants was thus ranked in terms of dPIT/dxsulfonate. A “cation” scan with the [DiC6CHSO3]mM/benzene/water systems at fw = 0.5 was finally performed confirming the hydrophilicity ranking obtained with the PIT-slope method. It revealed that the [DiC6CHSO3]2Mg behaves as a “Balanced Surfactant” able to form spontaneously a three-phase microemulsion system (Winsor III) just in the presence of water and oil, in the same way as the catalytic surfactant dimethyldioctylammonium molybdate, which has the same PIT-slope.

Nagrimanov, Ruslan N.;Samatov, Aizat A.;Solomonov, Boris N. research published 《 Additive scheme of solvation enthalpy for halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbons at 298.15 K.》, the research content is summarized as follows. In this work, an additive scheme for the estimation of solvation enthalpy of halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbons in n-heptane was developed. The proposed structural fragments for halogen group contributions are dependent on the nature of neighboring atoms. A linear relationship between solvation and vaporization enthalpy at 298.15 K for mono- and di-α,ω-halogen aliphatic compounds was found. These relationships can be used for the quick estimation of standard vaporization and solution enthalpies at 298.15 K. Proposed approaches for estimation of solvation, solution and vaporization enthalpies at 298.15 K were verified by conventional methods. In most cases, absolute deviations between exptl. and estimated values for halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbons do not exceed 1-2 kJ mol-1.

Nayak, Rashmi Ashwathama;Veerabhadraswamy, Bhyranalyar Nagarajappa;Shankar Rao, Doddamane S.;Sudhakar, Achalkumar Ammathnadu;Yelamaggad, Channabasaveshwar V. research published 《 Room-Temperature, Deep-Red/NIR-Emissive, C3-Symmetric (n,π-conjugated) Columnar Liquid Crystals: C3h-Tris(keto-hydrazone)s》, the research content is summarized as follows. The first examples of deep-red/near-IR (NIR) photoluminescent, (n,π-conjugated) discotics, namely, C3h-tris(keto-hydrazone)s, which are the tautomers of tris(azo-enol)s, have been synthesized via a facile one-step triple azo-coupling and characterized. The n,π-resonance-assisted intramol. H-bonding, rendering planarity and shape persistence to the central core, facilitates their self-assembly into either a hexagonal columnar (Colh) phase (p6mm lattice) or a columnar rectangular (Colr) phase (p2mm lattice), over an extended thermal range including room temperature, fluorescing in the deep-red/NIR-I region. The low band gap with deep-red/NIR emission makes them ideal candidates for NIR-organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) and bioimaging.
